Metabolic Regulation
M. tuberculosis can enter into a quiescent state during periods of stress and infection. This state is inherently resistant to many antibiotics because the cell is not growing/replicating. However, many cellular processes are active in the quiescent state, including central metabolism. We are interested in understanding metabolic regulations that occur in the transition to the quiescent state in order to target these active pathways for more effective drug treatments. We utilize 13C carbon tracing and metabolomic analysis using the Sassetti lab's Agilent HPLC ESI Q-Tof Mass Spectrometry machine.
